Girl Up Leadership
In partnership with Girl Up, the UN Foundation Campaign, and the WealthiHer Women’s Network, we deliver the Next Level Leadership Program, a transformative virtual development program that enables and empowers the next generation of women leaders. Girl Up was founded by the UN Foundation in 2010 as an initiative to help support UN agencies that focus on adolescent girls.
Girl Up’s leadership development programs have impacted 75,000 girls through 4,000 Clubs in nearly 125 countries and all 50 U.S. states. We’re inspiring a generation of girls to be a force for gender equality and social change.
For most women starting out in their careers, the main focus is on achievement, but not at the cost of having a satisfying career where they can engage in work they find fulfilling and making a positive contribution in their organisation. Women enter the first phase of their careers expecting that their road to success will be a meritocratic one. Women work hard and try to advance—believing they alone are in control of their career success.
Like men, women want to do it all and have it all – the only difference is women experience six invisible barriers early on that men do not. Women encounter these barriers before they even first set foot into an office, but they’re often encouraged to internalise the challenges they face, which has a detrimental impact on their confidence and mental and emotional wellbeing.
To overcome these challenges we need to arm the next generation of women leaders with awareness of how inequality creates barriers to their advancement at work and what they can do to overcome these challenges and lead on their own terms.
The Girl Up Next Level Leadership Program (NLLP) is a transformative virtual development program created and delivered by Equality Forward for young women around the world. The goal is to enable them to level up their leadership capabilities and thrive in workplaces today and tomorrow. The program is delivered in three modules to Girl Up Alumni and members aged 18– 26, who are looking to embark on their careers and want to develop the skills needed to become future leaders within their workplace. In undertaking the program participants will discover:
- The three phases of a women’s career and why this differs from men’s.
- How inequality and privilege function in organizations.
- Why women need to be intentional about how they lead and what individual strengths and values they have as leaders.
- Build awareness and understanding of how to navigate the six most common barriers all women face in the first phase of their careers.
- What capabilities are required for leaders in the future world of work, and how they can begin to build on the strengths they have and put equality into practice everyday at work.
